In the mid 1980's, the leadership of Hyde Park Baptist Church had a vision to plant a new church in the growing northwest Austin area. The initial facilities for Cypress Creek Baptist Church were built on 5.5 acres in the Anderson Mill West subdivision, and Donnie Dixon was called as pastor. The first worship service was held on April 12, 1987 with 12 people attending.
In 2003, having outgrown the original property and facilities, the church relocated to 21 acres on RR 620 near the Canyon Creek subdivision, and changed its name to “The Church at Canyon Creek.” Continuing the vision for new churches, TCACC planted two mission churches of its own. The Church at Bee Cave held its first service in October of 2008, and the Zion Indian Christian Church began in October of 2009.
In September of 2009 the church called Monty Watson as senior pastor to succeed pastor Dixon, who, after 21 years as senior pastor felt led to move into a different role, that of Discipleship pastor. The Church at Canyon Creek is a Southern Baptist Church, and is associated with the local Williamson Baptist Association and the national Southern Baptist Convention.
